Which Forum?

There are many technical forums on the web. So which to use? Here's my 2 cents on the forums I visit.

Technical Support

  • This site is fantastic: http://forums.techguy.org/
  • A New Zealand site: Press F1
  • Experts Exchange - I've only used it once and kindof found the solution myself but the support I got was awesome. I had a huge problem and I felt like I someone on my side.

No other forum I visit ever has so many people logged in or visiting and you always get some sort of answer.

Ettiquette

Most forums have a guide to the expected ettiquette.

Before you make a posting read some of the existing posts to:

  • get an idea of the quality of the responses
  • get a feel for the busy-ness of the forum

There is a trend to use 1337 (elite) language or text messaging language. Ok, I'm showing my age but what happened to using simple language. I'm in awe of the people who participate in forums when english isn't their main language. How hard must it be for them to cope with some of this nonsense.
